Candace O'Brien:  Meet AdoptInternational's Executive Director

AdoptInternational was founded by Candace O'Brien. Candace O'Brien is an Illinois-licensed attorney who spent over 15 years working abroad. During this time she served as an executive with the US government and later as an executive and corporate legal counsel with an international media organization headquartered in Central Europe. There, she provided legal assistance for the establishment of news bureaus throughout Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. During these years, Ms. O'Brien grew to love and admire the rich cultures of this fascinating, diverse region of the world.

During a trip to Baku, Azerbaijan in 1997, Ms. O'Brien had the opportunity to visit an orphanage and it was this visit that changed the course of her life and career. She decided that she could devote her considerable international background and legal experience in helping these orphaned children find families.

For the past 9 years, Candace O'Brien has been developing international adoption programs, providing consultation to adoption agencies throughout the United States, and helping families grow through international adoption.

Candace O'Brien is passionate about her work in adoption and about providing the most professional, compassionate and ethical adoption services possible. Candace strives to surround herself with those whose passion equals hers. Together, Candace O'Brien and the staff at AdoptInternational make a difference in children's lives and family's lives. Together, all of us make a difference and that is what counts!

I met Candace O'Brien early on in my search for an agency and was immediately taken with her open, warm, and honest approach coupled with her depth of knowledge and professional integrity.

Candace supported me through the whole adoption process, providing guidance on the paperwork and forms I needed and also keeping me informed of exactly what was happening with my case. She always responded quickly to queries and questions.

I think the real test for an agency lies in the question about whether someone who has already adopted a child through them would a) use that agency again for themselves and b) recommend them to their closest family and friends. In both situations my answer would be a resounding YES!
